First of all, I want to pay my respects to Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes. They will always be remembered for making people smile, and it’s pretty hard to top that for a legacy. They were far too young, and come on, far too cool, to leave us so early. Maybe that was it - they were far too cool for this world.
I’m sure you’ve heard the old wive’s tale about death, like a lot of things, coming in threes. I always thought my mom was kind of a fruit loop for saying that - until I noticed she had a point. Now I’m wondering if one of my all-time favorite actors EVER, Morgan Freeman, recently cheated death. He stared the grim reaper down until it cowered away. Sweet. But still, I want guards on him 24/7 - talent like that has to be protected. How many movies has my man been in anyway, a gazillion and 4?
I’ll always remember Bernie for his expressive face. He didn’t even have to say a word! And I’ll always remember Isaac Hayes for that smoooooth voice. Marvin Gaye had nothing on Isaac.
The Olympics!
Speaking of words, a certain French Olympian was recently served his on silver platter. Before the men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay final during the swimming competitions in the National Aquatics Center at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, French swimmer Alain Bernard boasted to the media, “The Americans? We’re going to smash them. That’s what we came here for.”
I guess that made it a little harder to stand on the silver platform while the Americans were enjoying the gold. Why so serious, French swimmer?
If you haven’t been following the Olympics, you really should. The human interest stories are blowing me away. There’s something remarkable about seeing people dedicate themselves to a dream so intently and passionately. If the Olympics don’t motivate you, I’m not sure anything will.
A Haunting Book
I just wrote a review of the book, “Surviving Ben’s Suicide,” by C. Comfort Shileds on my Mental Fitness/Self Help blog. I thought it was the perfect fit for Out of Bounds, but I wanted to alert you that it was up. It’s a stirring book that, I believe, could help a lot of people.
Thesis Theme Update
I wrote a post about a week or two ago about the Thesis Theme. I believe, at the time, I had used it on 5 of my blogs. I’ve added a 6th and 7th! When I’m presented with a theme that increases my level of enjoyment, increases the money generated, and increases traffic - man, it’s a no-brainer.
