Tagging on a Little More Time Can Lead To a Big Loss

by joi on January 25, 2006

If you’re exercising to lose weight, the key to Shangri-La may lie within just 10 minutes.  Rather than trying to exercise more often, exercise physiologists say we should simply begin exercising for 10 minutes longer.  If our daily exercise is a 30 workout, they point out that by tacking on just 10 more minutes, we could burn between 75 and 100 more calories.

If (like most of us) you’re short on time, they suggset cranking up the intensity. For those of us who walk, we should pick up the pace and hunt out more hills and steps.

I get kind of frustrated during the winter months, because walking at the mall really doesn’t pose that much of a workout and it’s far too cold for tennis or yard work. A free indoors walking trail with hills and steps…would that be asking too much?

I thought so.

I recently have started walking to work (about 1.3 miles) each way. This is day 25 of my walking to work and I have dropped 3 pounds. I will take a 3 pound drop every 25 days - perhaps 36 pounds this time next year?

Most people want to lose weight quickly whihc is the wrong approach - be reasonable about your weight loss goals - it’s more rewarding and fun…

Congratulations! You’re on pace to have one heck of a year!

You’re absolutely right, most people do try to accomplish TOO much TOO fast - then they get discouraged and head for McDonald’s to drown their sorrows in fries.

Been there. Done that. Had a burger, too.

Best of luck…keep it up!
